Mumbai Indians Women Squad 2027
Mumbai Indians have won the WPL twice and kept their world-class overseas core for 2027. They have 12 players, a new head coach in Luke Williams, and just ₹90 lakh to fill six Indian spots at the auction. Part of our Women’s Premier League 2027.
MI Women 2027 key details
Mumbai Indians women squad 2027 in short: 12 players, Harmanpreet Kaur as captain, and six spots left, all of them for Indian players. MI have used all six of their overseas places, so there is no room for another foreign star. They have the smallest purse in the league at ₹90 lakh, roughly ₹15 lakh for each open spot.
MI were the first WPL champions in 2023 and won again in 2025, both times beating Delhi Capitals in the final at the Brabourne Stadium. In 2026 they finished fourth and missed the playoffs for the first time. Their response has been to keep the core together and change the man in charge: Luke Williams, who coached RCB to the 2024 title, has replaced Lisa Keightley as head coach.
MI also made the first trade in their WPL history, bringing in USA pace bowler Tara Norris from UP Warriorz for ₹10 lakh. Because the USA is an Associate nation, Norris can be a fifth overseas player in the XI, which gives MI an unusual advantage. This page covers the full squad with prices, each role, our best XI, the auction plan, the captain, coach and owner, MI’s record season by season, and our view of their chances.

MI Women squad by role
Batters
Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, is the heart of the batting and has led MI to both of their titles. She scored 66 in the 2025 final, the innings that won the trophy. Sajeevan Sajana, the Kerala batter, is the other specialist and is best known as a finisher. Beyond them, MI’s batting is built on all-rounders.
The obvious gap is at the top. G Kamalini, the young keeper-batter who opened for MI, has been released and is in the auction at ₹40 lakh. Hayley Matthews will open, but MI need an Indian partner for her.
Wicketkeepers
Rahila Firdous is the only keeper in the squad, retained at ₹10 lakh. That is a risk for a team that wants to win the title. Expect MI to buy at least one Indian keeper or keeper-batter at the auction.
All-rounders
This is where MI are frightening. Nat Sciver-Brunt was Player of the Series in 2025 and topped the run charts that season with 523 runs. Melie Kerr took the Purple Cap that year with 18 wickets. Hayley Matthews was Player of the Series in the very first WPL in 2023 and took the Purple Cap with 16 wickets. Add Amanjot Kaur and Nicola Carey and MI have five genuine all-rounders. Few T20 teams anywhere in the world can match that.
Bowlers
Shabnim Ismail, one of the fastest bowlers in women’s cricket, leads the pace attack, with Tara Norris adding left-arm swing. Vaishnavi Sharma and Sanskriti Gupta are young Indian spinners. With Saika Ishaque released, MI lack an experienced Indian spinner, though Kerr’s leg-spin and Matthews’ off-spin cover a lot of overs.
MI Women players to watch in 2027
Nat Sciver-Brunt
The England star holds the record for the most runs in a single WPL season, 523 in 2025, and was Player of the Series that year. She bats at three, bowls seam and is the player opponents plan for first.
Melie Kerr
Kerr’s leg-spin took 18 wickets and the Purple Cap in 2025, and she also bats in the top five. At ₹3 crore she is the second most expensive player in the squad, and she is worth it.
Tara Norris
The left-arm seamer is the clever signing of the off-season. She cost only ₹10 lakh in a trade from UP Warriorz, and because she plays for the USA, an Associate nation, she lets MI field a fifth overseas player in the XI.
Amanjot Kaur
Amanjot is the Indian all-rounder MI need to step up. Retained at ₹1 crore, she bats in the lower middle order and bowls seam, and her form decides how balanced MI’s XI looks.
MI Women best playing XI for WPL 2027
This XI uses four overseas players plus Tara Norris, who counts as the extra Associate-nation player allowed in a WPL XI.
| No. | Player | Role | Job in the XI |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hayley Matthews | All-Rounder (OS) | Opener, off-spin |
| 2 | Sajeevan Sajana | Batter | Stop-gap opener until an auction buy |
| 3 | Nat Sciver-Brunt | All-Rounder (OS) | Main run-scorer, seam bowling |
| 4 | Harmanpreet Kaur (C) | Batter | Middle-order anchor and finisher |
| 5 | Melie Kerr | All-Rounder (OS) | Leg-spin and middle-order runs |
| 6 | Amanjot Kaur | All-Rounder | Hitter and fifth bowler |
| 7 | Rahila Firdous (WK) | Keeper | Only keeper in the squad |
| 8 | Shabnim Ismail | Bowler (OS) | Strike fast bowler |
| 9 | Tara Norris | Bowler (Associate) | Left-arm swing, extra overseas spot |
| 10 | Vaishnavi Sharma | Bowler | Spin |
| 11 | Sanskriti Gupta | Bowler | Spin |
Why this XI works: MI can bowl their overs with Ismail, Norris, Sciver-Brunt, Kerr, Matthews and Amanjot before they even reach the young spinners. With the bat, three of the best all-rounders in the world bat in the top five.
What will change: slot two and slot seven are the weak links. A specialist Indian opener and a keeper-batter from the auction would replace Sajana at the top and Rahila Firdous behind the stumps, and push Sajana down to the finisher’s role where she is most dangerous.
Who MI Women kept, and who they let go
MI retained 11 of their own players, traded in Tara Norris, and released six: G Kamalini, Milly Illingworth, Nalla Kranthi Reddy, Poonam Khemnar, Saika Ishaque and Triveni Vasistha.
G Kamalini is the surprise. The teenager was seen as a long-term opener and keeper, but MI could not justify her price alongside their overseas stars. She is in the auction at ₹40 lakh, and MI could try to buy her back cheaper. Saika Ishaque, the left-arm spinner who starred in 2023, is also in the pool at ₹30 lakh.
Milly Illingworth was an overseas back-up, and releasing her made room for Norris. The trade is clever: Norris costs only ₹10 lakh and, as a USA player, lets MI play five overseas cricketers in one XI.
The cost of keeping the big names is clear. Sciver-Brunt, Kerr, Harmanpreet and Matthews together cost ₹10.75 crore. That leaves just ₹90 lakh, the smallest purse in the league.
MI Women auction plan: ₹90 lakh for 6 slots
MI have ₹90 lakh for six players, about ₹15 lakh a slot. That is the tightest budget of any team, and they can only buy Indian players. They need at least three buys to reach the 15-player minimum.
The plan almost writes itself. MI will avoid the early bidding on capped stars and wait for the uncapped Indian sets, where most players have a ₹10 lakh base price. If they want Kamalini back, they may have to spend half the purse on her. A better plan may be one capped buy around ₹30 to ₹40 lakh and five uncapped players near their base price.
The priority list: an opening batter, a keeper, and an experienced Indian spinner. Everything else is depth.
Players MI Women could target on 28 October
| Player | Country | Role | Base price | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G Kamalini | India | Batter / Keeper | ₹40 L | Buy back their young opener and keeper |
| Saika Ishaque | India | Bowler | ₹30 L | Experienced left-arm spinner who knows MI |
| Triveni Vasistha | India | All-Rounder | ₹20 L | Released player, cheap depth |
| Vrinda Dinesh | India | Batter | ₹10 L | Uncapped top-order batter |
| Nalla Reddy | India | All-Rounder | ₹10 L | Cheap returning option |
Base prices are from the official auction list of 146 players. The auction starts at 5:30 PM IST on Wednesday, 28 October at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.
MI Women captain, coach and owner
| Role | Name | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Captain | Harmanpreet Kaur | Captain since 2023; won the title in 2023 and 2025 |
| Head coach | Luke Williams | New for 2027, replacing Lisa Keightley; coached RCB to the 2024 title |
| Owner | Indiawin Sports (Reliance Industries) | Bought the team for ₹912.99 crore in 2023 |
| Home city | Mumbai | WPL 2027 venues are not confirmed yet; Brabourne Stadium is reported as one host |
Harmanpreet Kaur has captained MI from the start. Under her, MI won the 2023 final by seven wickets and the 2025 final by eight runs, both against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium.
Luke Williams is the big off-field change. The Australian coached Adelaide Strikers to WBBL titles and RCB to the 2024 WPL title before moving to MI in September 2026, replacing Lisa Keightley. Charlotte Edwards had coached MI to both titles before leaving to coach England. Williams is known for an attacking style and will have to get MI’s Indian batting firing again.
MI are owned by Indiawin Sports, part of Reliance Industries, the same group that runs the men’s Mumbai Indians. It paid ₹912.99 crore for the franchise in 2023, the second-highest bid after Adani for Gujarat Giants.
Mumbai Indians Women in the WPL: season by season
| Season | Finish | Captain | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | Champions | Harmanpreet Kaur | Beat UPW in the Eliminator, then DC by 7 wickets in the first WPL final |
| 2024 | 3rd (Eliminator) | Harmanpreet Kaur | Lost the Eliminator to RCB by 5 runs |
| 2025 | Champions | Harmanpreet Kaur | Beat GG in the Eliminator, then DC by 8 runs in the final |
| 2026 | 4th (league stage) | Harmanpreet Kaur | Missed the playoffs for the first time |
MI set the standard in the first WPL. Hayley Matthews took the Purple Cap, Issy Wong took the league’s first hat-trick in the Eliminator, and Nat Sciver-Brunt saw them home in the final against Delhi. In 2024 they reached the playoffs again but lost a tight Eliminator to RCB, who went on to win the title.
2025 was their best season. Sciver-Brunt scored 523 runs, the most by anyone in a single WPL season, and Melie Kerr took 18 wickets. Harmanpreet’s 66 in the final set up a total that Delhi could not chase. In 2026 the run stopped: they finished fourth and stayed in the race until the last week but did not reach the playoffs.
The lesson from 2026 is that MI’s overseas core still wins games, but the Indian support players have not done enough. Fixing that with ₹90 lakh is the challenge for Williams.
MI Women 2027 strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- Three of the best all-rounders in the world: Sciver-Brunt, Kerr and Matthews.
- Tara Norris lets MI play five overseas players in one XI.
- A captain who has won two WPL titles and knows how to win finals.
- Huge bowling depth: six or seven options in most XIs.
- Two titles and a winning culture that new players buy into.
Weaknesses
- The smallest purse: ₹90 lakh for six players.
- Only one keeper in the squad.
- No settled Indian opener after G Kamalini’s release.
- No experienced Indian spinner since Saika Ishaque left.
- Heavy reliance on overseas players; an injury to one hurts a lot.
Our view: MI’s top five can beat anyone, but their bottom six decide whether they win the title. With ₹90 lakh, they cannot buy their way out of trouble, so this auction is a test of their scouts. If they get Kamalini or another opener cheaply and find one useful spinner, MI will be back in the playoffs.
The coaching move is the story to watch. Luke Williams knows RCB’s players and methods better than anyone outside Bengaluru. We think MI finish in the top two, and an MI against RCB final would be the most likely way WPL 2027 ends.
