Gujarat Giants Women Squad 2027
Gujarat Giants have kept 15 players for 2027, the most of any team, and only need three more at the auction. Ashleigh Gardner leads a squad built around Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine, the Player of the Series in 2026. Part of our Women’s Premier League 2027.
GG Women 2027 key details
Gujarat Giants women squad 2027 in short: 15 players are retained, Ashleigh Gardner is captain, and only three spots are left, one of them for an overseas player. GG have ₹1.25 crore to spend, about ₹42 lakh for each open spot. Only UP Warriorz have more money per slot.
Gujarat finished last in each of the first two seasons, then turned things round. They reached the Eliminator in 2025 and again in 2026, losing to Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. In 2026 Sophie Devine was Player of the Series and joint top wicket-taker with 17 wickets, and she won one game against Delhi by defending nine runs in the last over.
The club’s approach for 2027 is stability. It kept more players than anyone else and only has to fill a couple of gaps. This page has the full squad with prices, the squad by role, our best XI, the auction plan, the captain, coach and owner, GG’s record season by season, and our view on whether they can go one step further.

The season runs from Thursday, 14 January to Sunday, 7 February 2027. GG Women squad by role
Batters
The specialist batters are Indian: Bharati Fulmali, a hard-hitting middle-order player, Anushka Sharma and Kanika Ahuja. None of them is a proven WPL opener, which is why the release of England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge matters. Most of GG’s runs at the top will come from Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine.
Wicketkeepers
GG are the only team with two experienced keepers. Beth Mooney, retained at ₹2.5 crore, is one of the best T20 batters in the world and opens the innings. Yastika Bhatia, the India keeper-batter, was retained at ₹50 lakh and can play as a specialist batter when Mooney keeps.
All-rounders
Ashleigh Gardner, the most expensive player in the squad at ₹3.5 crore, bats in the middle order and bowls off-spin. Sophie Devine opens the batting and bowls seam; her 17 wickets in 2026 made her the best bowler in the league that season. Georgia Wareham, the Australian leg-spinner, is a handy lower-order hitter.
Bowlers
The Indian pace attack is strong: Renuka Singh Thakur swings the new ball, and Kashvee Gautam is a young seamer who also bats. Kim Garth is the overseas seam option. Spin comes from Tanuja Kanwar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Wareham, with Gardner’s off-spin on top. Jintimani Kalita and Happy Kumari are the young back-ups.
GG Women players to watch in 2027
Sophie Devine
The New Zealand all-rounder was Player of the Series in 2026 and shared the most wickets in the league with 17. She opens the batting, bowls seam at important moments, and defended nine runs in the last over against Delhi Capitals to win one of the games of the season.
Beth Mooney
Mooney is one of the best T20 openers in the world and keeps wicket too. Her injury in the very first game of 2023 hurt GG badly, and her fitness through the 2027 season is one of the keys to their chances.
Ashleigh Gardner
The captain is the most expensive player in the squad at ₹3.5 crore. She hits hard in the middle order and bowls off-spin through the middle overs, and she has turned GG from a last-place team into a playoff side.
Kashvee Gautam
The young India seamer was retained at ₹65 lakh. She bowls at a good pace and can bat in the lower order, and she is the Indian player most likely to break through in 2027.
Renuka Singh Thakur
Renuka swings the new ball both ways and is one of India’s best powerplay bowlers. Paired with Devine and Kashvee, she gives GG one of the best new-ball attacks in the league.
GG Women best playing XI for WPL 2027
This XI uses four overseas players. Kim Garth is the fifth overseas player in the squad and starts on the bench.
| No. | Player | Role | Job in the XI |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sophie Devine | All-Rounder (OS) | Opener and seamer, 2026 Player of the Series |
| 2 | Beth Mooney (WK) | Keeper (OS) | Opener and keeper |
| 3 | Yastika Bhatia | Keeper | Batter at three |
| 4 | Ashleigh Gardner (C) | All-Rounder (OS) | Middle-order power and off-spin |
| 5 | Bharati Fulmali | Batter | Middle-order hitter |
| 6 | Anushka Sharma | Batter | Indian batting depth |
| 7 | Georgia Wareham | All-Rounder (OS) | Leg-spin and lower-order hitting |
| 8 | Kashvee Gautam | Bowler | Seam and lower-order runs |
| 9 | Tanuja Kanwar | Bowler | Left-arm spin |
| 10 | Renuka Singh Thakur | Bowler | New-ball swing |
| 11 | Rajeshwari Gayakwad | Bowler | Left-arm spin |
Why this XI works: GG have eight bowling options, including three spinners and Gardner, and two world-class openers. Yastika at three gives them a proper Indian batter in the top order.
What will change: GG’s one overseas buy is most likely an opener. If they sign one, Devine could move to three and Yastika drop to the middle order, giving them a longer batting line-up. An Indian batter from the auction would compete with Anushka Sharma for the sixth spot.
Who GG Women kept, and who they let go
GG retained 15 players and released four: Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Ayushi Soni, Titas Sadhu and Shivani Singh.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge is the biggest loss. The England opener has opted out of the WPL for next season, along with several other England players, so GG had no choice. Titas Sadhu, the India seamer, and Ayushi Soni, a batter, are both in the auction at ₹30 lakh. Shivani Singh, a young keeper, is in the pool at ₹10 lakh.
Keeping 15 players is a strong statement. GG believe their 2026 squad was good enough and only needs a top-order replacement. The four big retentions (Gardner, Mooney, Devine and Wareham) cost ₹9 crore together.
GG Women auction plan: ₹1.25 cr for 3 slots
GG have ₹1.25 crore for three players, about ₹42 lakh a slot. They do not need to buy anyone to reach the 15-player minimum, so every purchase is a choice, not a need.
That puts them in a strong position. They can afford to spend most of their money on one overseas opener. Sophia Dunkley, who played for GG in 2023, is in the pool at ₹50 lakh and would be a natural fit. If the bidding goes too high, Chamari Athapaththu at ₹30 lakh is a cheaper and still dangerous option.
The other two spots are likely to go on Indian depth, possibly buying back Titas Sadhu for seam bowling cover. GG can sit out the early sets and strike when other teams have run low on money.
Players GG Women could target on 28 October
| Player | Country | Role | Base price | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sophia Dunkley | England | Batter | ₹50 L | Overseas opener to replace Wyatt-Hodge; played for GG in 2023 |
| Chamari Athapaththu | Sri Lanka | All-Rounder | ₹30 L | Cheaper attacking opener |
| Titas Sadhu | India | Bowler | ₹30 L | Buy back their India seamer |
| Ayushi Soni | India | Batter | ₹30 L | Released batter, Indian depth |
| Shivani Singh | India | Keeper | ₹10 L | Cheap third keeper |
Base prices are from the official auction list of 146 players. The auction starts at 5:30 PM IST on Wednesday, 28 October at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.
GG Women captain, coach and owner
| Role | Name | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Captain | Ashleigh Gardner | Captain since 2025 |
| Head coach | Michael Klinger | Former Australian batter; head coach in 2026 |
| Owner | Adani Sportsline | Paid ₹1,289 crore in 2023, the highest of the five bids |
| Home city | Ahmedabad | WPL 2027 venues are not confirmed yet; Vadodara is reported as a likely host |
Ashleigh Gardner took over as captain in 2025 and led GG to their first playoff place that year and again in 2026. She is one of the best all-rounders in the world and is just as important with the ball as the bat.
Michael Klinger, the former Australian batter, coached GG in 2026 and said before the season that he had no doubt the team would be successful. Under him, GG have become a playoff side.
GG are owned by Adani Sportsline, part of the Adani Group. It paid ₹1,289 crore for the franchise in 2023, the highest of the five bids. Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium, which hosted the 2026 final, is in Gujarat and is one of the venues reported for WPL 2027, so GG could have something close to home support.
Gujarat Giants Women in the WPL: season by season
| Season | Finish | Captain | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 5th (league stage) | Beth Mooney | Mooney was injured in the first game; Sneh Rana led in her absence |
| 2024 | 5th (league stage) | Beth Mooney | Finished bottom again |
| 2025 | 3rd (Eliminator) | Ashleigh Gardner | First playoff place; lost the Eliminator to MI |
| 2026 | Eliminator | Ashleigh Gardner | Lost the Eliminator to DC; Devine Player of the Series |
Gujarat’s first two seasons were hard. Beth Mooney was injured in the opening game of 2023, and the team finished last that year and again in 2024. The turnaround came under Ashleigh Gardner. In 2025, GG finished third and reached the Eliminator, where Mumbai Indians beat them.
In 2026 they were even better. Sophie Devine was Player of the Series, and GG beat Delhi in a thriller when Devine defended nine runs in the final over. They reached the Eliminator again but lost to Delhi Capitals, who chased 169 in 15.4 overs.
Two straight Eliminators show a team that belongs in the top three. The next step is winning a knockout game, and that is why the opener they buy matters: GG’s top order has not done enough in big matches.
GG Women 2027 strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- The most settled squad: 15 players retained.
- Two world-class openers in Mooney and Devine, and two experienced keepers.
- Eight bowling options, including three spinners and Gardner’s off-spin.
- About ₹42 lakh per open slot, the second-best position in the auction.
- Sophie Devine, the best player of the 2026 season.
Weaknesses
- No proven Indian top-order batter.
- Lost Danni Wyatt-Hodge, their England opener, who has opted out of the WPL.
- Has never won a WPL knockout match.
- Heavy reliance on four overseas players; little cover if one is injured.
- Devine and Mooney are both in the later stages of their careers.
Our view: GG have the most complete squad going into the auction. They only need one thing, an overseas opener, and they have the money to buy one. If Sophia Dunkley returns, GG’s top order becomes as strong as anyone’s.
The question is mental, not technical. GG have reached two Eliminators and lost both. We expect them in the playoffs again, and this time we think they have a genuine chance to reach their first final.
