India’s Asian Games 2026 campaign is complete. At the 20th Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan (19 September – 4 October 2026), India won 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — and finished fourth on the medal table, behind China, Japan and South Korea and ahead of Uzbekistan on silver medals. It is India’s second-best Asian Games haul, behind the record 107 (28 gold, 38 silver, 41 bronze) from Hangzhou 2023.

The Stories of India’s Campaign
The double golds: cricket, hockey and kabaddi
India won both titles in three team sports. The women’s cricket team beat Sri Lanka in their final, and the men beat Pakistan by 19 runs on 3 October to retain their crown. In hockey, the men beat Malaysia to defend a title for the first time and the women won their first gold since 1982 — both teams also sealed places at the LA 2028 Olympics. In kabaddi, the men beat Iran in the final and the women also took gold.
Archery’s golden fortnight
Archery delivered five golds, the most of any Indian sport. The compound archers swept all three team titles, the women’s trio matching a world record in their final and the mixed team securing an LA 2028 quota. Kumkum Mohod then became the first Indian woman to win individual recurve gold, after leading the women’s recurve team to India’s first gold in that event.
Boxing’s best-ever gold haul
Three boxing golds — Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Parveen Hooda (65kg) and Ankush Panghal — made this India’s most successful Asian Games boxing campaign by golds. Lovlina became only the second Indian woman after Mary Kom to win Asian Games boxing gold.
Firsts and long waits ended
Neeru Dhanda won India’s first individual trap gold since 1978 and added the mixed trap title with Kynan Chenai in an Asian record. Pranavi Urs won India’s first Asian Games golf gold. Sawan Barwal’s marathon silver ended a 44-year wait. Mirabai Chanu’s silver was India’s first Asian Games weightlifting medal since 1998, and Suchika Tariyal won India’s first-ever MMA medal.
Life after Neeraj Chopra
With the reigning javelin champion out injured, his replacement Yashvir Singh won silver and Rohit Yadav took bronze. Athletics overall produced 24 medals, India’s largest haul from any sport, with Gulveer Singh winning three and Vithya Ramraj breaking PT Usha’s 400m hurdles national record from 1984 on her way to bronze.
Where India fell short
Badminton returned only a men’s team bronze, with PV Sindhu losing in the women’s singles quarter-finals and Lakshya Sen and the Satwik–Chirag pair exiting early. Shooting won 15 medals but only three golds, and Manu Bhaker finished without a medal. Overall, the 85-medal total fell well short of Hangzhou’s 107.
The comeback finish
India were down at 12th after a gold-less Day 9, but a strong final week — archery, wrestling and boxing, then nine medals including five golds on 3 October — carried the team past Uzbekistan into fourth.
