Team Philippines at the Asian Games 2026: Full Athlete List and Final Results

The final list of Filipino athletes who competed at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan (19 September – 4 October 2026), as named by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). The POC sent a 464-strong delegation across 39 sports, its largest-ever Asiad contingent. The campaign is now complete, and it was the country’s best in 64 years. The Philippines won 29 medals (4 gold, 9 silver, 16 bronze) and finished 17th in the medal table. That beat the 18-medal haul from Hangzhou 2023 (4 gold, 2 silver, 12 bronze), although it fell short of the officials’ target of up to eight golds.

Status: Final. The Games ended with the Closing Ceremony on 4 October 2026. Boxer Aira Villegas and weightlifter Albert Delos Santos carried the flag at the Opening Ceremony. Delos Santos went on to win bronze in the men’s 70kg. Some events, including men’s basketball, began before the 19 September Opening Ceremony.

Stars to watch: how the gold hopes fared

Three of the country’s four Hangzhou 2023 champions returned to defend their crowns: Gilas Pilipinas (men’s basketball), pole vaulter EJ Obiena, and jiu-jitsu standout Annie Ramirez. Jiu-jitsu’s Meggie Ochoa, the fourth 2023 gold medallist, has retired and moved into coaching. Obiena was the only one of the three to retain his title, and he did it with a new Games record. Gilas went out in the group stage.

Two-time Olympic champion gymnast Carlos Yulo led the new medal firepower and delivered two golds. World No. 18 tennis star Alex Eala, who won her maiden WTA Tour title at the Washington Open in August 2026, took bronze in women’s singles. The POC had also flagged boxing, taekwondo, wushu, mixed martial arts, athletics, esports and skateboarding as gold-medal prospects. Taekwondo produced a gold and became the Philippines’ most successful sport by medal count, and boxing, MMA, athletics and esports all added medals.

Basketball — Gilas Pilipinas

Defending champions Gilas Pilipinas, coached by Tim Cone, fielded an all-PBA squad. Naturalised player Justin Brownlee missed out while recovering from injury, and Calvin Oftana took the final roster spot. The official 12-man lineup:

  • RJ Abarrientos
  • Jerrick Ahanmisi
  • Justin Arana
  • Justine Baltazar
  • Sedrick Barefield
  • Brandon Bates
  • Robert Bolick
  • Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser

The defending champions finished 1-2 and missed the quarter-finals on point difference. South Korea went on to win the men’s title. The women’s programme had better news: Gilas Women finished fifth in 5×5, and the 3×3 women won silver, the Philippines’ first-ever Asian Games 3×3 medal.

Boxing

The seven-strong squad chased the Philippines’ first Asian Games boxing gold in 16 years, led by Olympic medallists Nesthy Petecio (60kg), Carlo Paalam (bantamweight) and flagbearer Aira Villegas (51kg). Also competing: Norlan Petecio (light middleweight), Junmilardo Ogayre (lightweight) and Riza Pasuit (bantamweight). Eumir Marcial did not take part because of a clash with his professional-bout schedule.

Result: Carlo Paalam reached the final and won silver after a split decision went to Japan’s Rui Yamaguchi on 2 October. The 16-year wait for boxing gold goes on.

Athletics

Reigning Asian Games champion and Asian record holder EJ Obiena, now training under coach Marcin Szczepanski, headlined the track-and-field squad.

Results:

  • 🥇 EJ Obiena, men’s pole vault. On a rainy 29 September he was the only athlete to clear 5.75m. He then cleared 5.91m, breaking his own Games record of 5.90m from Hangzhou, to win his second straight Asian Games title.
  • 🥉 John Cabang Tolentino, men’s 110m hurdles.
  • 🥉 Victoria Bossong, women’s 800m.

Tennis

Alex Eala, the highest-ranked Filipina in history, led the tennis campaign after a breakthrough 2026 that included her first WTA Tour title and deep runs at Wimbledon and the US Open. She had taken individual and mixed-doubles bronze in Hangzhou 2023.

Result: 🥉 Bronze in women’s singles.
