MI Emirates were the ILT20 champions in 2024 and runners-up last season, when Desert Vipers beat them in the final. They spent the most money of any team at the Season 5 auction, the full $2 million.
The biggest deal was Fazalhaq Farooqi at $380,000, the highest fee in ILT20 auction history. They also kept Muhammad Waseem for $210,000, a record for a UAE player, and Allah Ghazanfar for $150,000, and added Chris Jordan, Jonny Bairstow and Kusal Perera. Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan, Romario Shepherd and Sherfane Rutherford were signed before the auction. Their season starts with a rematch of last season’s final.

Squad analysis
Batting. Muhammad Waseem and Jonny Bairstow make an experienced opening pair, with Kusal Perera as another option. Nicholas Pooran, the league’s biggest six-hitter, anchors a middle order that also has Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd and England’s James Coles.
All-rounders. Shepherd, Coles, Rutherford and Chris Jordan all contribute with bat and ball.
Bowling. This is the best attack in the league on paper. Farooqi swings the new ball, Jordan and Lizaad Williams bowl at the death, and Rashid Khan and Allah Ghazanfar give MI two of the best spinners in T20 cricket.
Who’s gone. Kieron Pollard, last season’s captain, and Tom Banton, who made 327 runs (now at Sharjah Warriorz), are not in the Season 5 squad. Andre Fletcher, their record buy last year, has moved to Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.
Players to watch

- Rashid Khan. One of the best T20 spinners in the world, signed before the auction.
- Muhammad Waseem. Has won the Best UAE Player award in all four seasons.
- Allah Ghazanfar. The young Afghan off-spinner, kept with a Right to Match card for $150,000.
