Salt Lake Stadium is the biggest stadium in the ISL and the spiritual home of Indian football. Opened in 1984, it once held well over a lakh fans before renovations cut the capacity. It hosted the final of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Atmosphere: Nothing in Indian club football matches the Kolkata Derby here. The 2025-26 derby drew 62,201 fans, the season’s highest crowd. Arrive early, as the queues outside start hours before kick-off.
How to reach:
- Metro: Salt Lake Stadium station on the Green Line (East-West Metro) is next to the venue.
- Air: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is roughly 10 km away.
- Rail: Sealdah and Howrah are the main railway stations; take the metro from there.
Notable ISL moments: Mohun Bagan Super Giant won the 2024-25 ISL Cup final here against Bengaluru FC, and East Bengal clinched their first ISL title in 2025-26. Derby nights here routinely produce the biggest crowds of the season.
Matchday tips: For derbies, buy tickets the moment sales open, as they go within hours. Use the metro rather than a cab, because roads around Salt Lake jam up after the final whistle. Kolkata evenings can be humid, so dress light.
2. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Kaloor), Kochi
Home of: Kerala Blasters FC · Capacity: about 40,000
The Kaloor stadium has been Kerala Blasters’ home since the first ISL season in 2014. It was also a venue for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Atmosphere: Often called the loudest ground in Indian football. The yellow-clad fan group Manjappada fills the stands, and Kochi has repeatedly recorded some of the biggest crowds in ISL history.
How to reach:
- Metro: JLN Stadium station on the Kochi Metro is right outside.
- Air: Cochin International Airport is about 25 km away.
- Rail: Ernakulam Town station is a short ride away.
Notable ISL moments: Kochi hosted the 2016 ISL final, which Kerala Blasters lost on penalties in front of a packed home crowd. The club has reached three ISL finals and still chases its first trophy, which only adds to the emotion in the stands.
Matchday tips: Wear yellow if you want to blend in with the home end. Arrive early to soak in the pre-match chants, and take the metro home instead of waiting for a taxi.
3. Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru
Home of: Bengaluru FC · Capacity: about 25,810
In the heart of the city, Kanteerava has been Bengaluru FC’s fortress since the club’s I-League days. It has hosted AFC club matches and India’s 2023 SAFF Championship win. It also hosts the ISL 2026-27 season opener.
Atmosphere: The West Block Blues fan group leads the chants from behind the goal. The tight stands keep the noise close to the pitch.
How to reach:
- Metro: Cubbon Park station (Purple Line) is a short walk.
- Air: Kempegowda International Airport is about 35 km away; allow extra time for traffic.
- Rail: KSR Bengaluru City station is about 5 km away.
Notable ISL moments: Kanteerava hosted the 2018 ISL final, where Bengaluru FC lost to Chennaiyin. It has also seen Bengaluru’s best Asian nights, including the 2016 AFC Cup semi-final win over Johor Darul Ta’zim.
Matchday tips: Do not drive; central Bengaluru traffic and limited parking make the metro the fastest option. Seats near the West Block Blues end give you the best atmosphere.
4. Fatorda Stadium (Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium), Margao, Goa
Home of: FC Goa and Churchill Brothers · Capacity: about 19,000
Opened in 1989, Fatorda has been FC Goa’s home since 2014. It hosted the 2015 ISL final and matches at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. From 2026-27 it is also home to Churchill Brothers, who joined the ISL after taking over Jamshedpur FC’s licence.
Atmosphere: Goan football culture runs deep. Watch for 13 December 2026, when Churchill Brothers and FC Goa play the first-ever ISL Goa Derby here.
How to reach:
- Rail: Madgaon (Margao) station is about 3 km away.
- Air: Dabolim (Goa International) Airport is about 25 km away; Manohar International Airport at Mopa is much farther north.
- Road: Taxis and buses run from Margao town centre.
Notable ISL moments: Chennaiyin beat FC Goa 3-2 here in the dramatic 2015 final. Fatorda also staged a large share of the 2020-21 season, when the whole ISL was played in Goa.
Matchday tips: With two clubs using the ground, Fatorda hosts more ISL matches than any other single venue this season, which makes it a great choice for a football holiday. Margao town nearby has plenty of places to eat before kick-off.
5. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi
Home of: Punjab FC and Sporting Club Delhi · Capacity: about 60,254
Built for the 1982 Asian Games, JLN Delhi was the main venue of the 2010 Commonwealth Games and a 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup venue. Punjab FC have played their ISL home games here since 2023-24, while their own base is in Mohali. SC Delhi share the ground.
Atmosphere: The stands are huge, so ISL crowds are usually seated in a few lower sections. Matches here are easy to reach and tickets are rarely hard to find.
How to reach:
- Metro: JLN Stadium station on the Violet Line is beside the venue.
- Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 15 km away.
- Rail: Hazrat Nizamuddin and New Delhi stations are both close.
Notable ISL moments: The stadium was the home of Delhi Dynamos in the early ISL seasons, before that club moved to Bhubaneswar and became Odisha FC. Two clubs now call it home again.
Matchday tips: Check which gates are open on matchday, since only part of the stadium is used. Winter evenings in Delhi get cold from December, so carry a jacket for late kick-offs.
6. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Marina Arena), Chennai
Home of: Chennaiyin FC · Capacity: about 40,000
Branded the Marina Arena for ISL matches, this Periamet stadium has been Chennaiyin’s home since 2014. The two-time ISL champions sometimes play their opening games away while the stadium is in use for other events.
Atmosphere: The Marina Machans’ blue wall of fans brings a lively, family-friendly crowd.
How to reach:
- Rail: Chennai Central station is about 1–2 km away.
- Metro: Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central metro station is nearby.
- Air: Chennai International Airport is about 20 km away.
Notable ISL moments: Chennaiyin won the ISL in 2015 and 2017-18, and the Marina Arena saw many of the home wins that built those title runs.
Matchday tips: Check the fixture list early in the season, since Chennaiyin’s first home game can come later than other clubs’. Central Station’s closeness makes this one of the easiest ISL grounds for travelling fans.
7. Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Sarusajai), Guwahati
Home of: NorthEast United FC · Capacity: about 21,600
Built for the 2007 National Games, Sarusajai has been NorthEast United’s home for most seasons since 2014. It was also a 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup venue. Its record football crowd is 32,844, for NorthEast United vs Chennaiyin in October 2016.
Atmosphere: The Highlanders carry the support of the whole Northeast, and big games draw fans from across the region.
How to reach:
- Air: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is about 20 km away.
- Rail: Guwahati railway station is about 8 km away.
Matchday tips: Sarusajai is on the city’s southern edge, so book a return cab in advance or leave a few minutes early. Big games against Kolkata clubs draw the largest crowds.
8. Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal (secondary venue)
Home of: NorthEast United FC (selected games) · Capacity: about 29,877
Imphal hosts its first-ever ISL match on 24 November 2026, when NorthEast United play SC Delhi here. Manipur is one of India’s great football nurseries, so expect a passionate crowd.
How to reach:
- Air: Imphal Airport is a short drive from the stadium.
Why it matters: Manipur has produced many India internationals, and Imphal has hosted Durand Cup matches in recent seasons. A successful ISL debut could see NorthEast United bring more games here in future.
9. Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar
Home of: Odisha FC · Capacity: about 15,000
Kalinga Stadium is a multi-sport complex that has hosted athletics, hockey and international football, including the Intercontinental Cup. Odisha FC have played here since moving from Delhi in 2019.
Atmosphere: Crowds are smaller than in Kolkata or Kochi, which makes tickets easy to get and the ground relaxed for families.
How to reach:
- Air: Biju Patnaik International Airport is about 6 km away.
- Rail: Bhubaneswar railway station is a short drive away.
Notable moments: Bhubaneswar hosted the Intercontinental Cup and the Super Cup, making Kalinga one of India’s busiest football venues outside the ISL too.
Matchday tips: The Kalinga complex is large, so check which entry gate is printed on your ticket before you arrive.
10. Mumbai Football Arena (Andheri Sports Complex), Mumbai
Home of: Mumbai City FC · Capacity: about 7,000
The smallest stadium in the ISL was converted into a football-specific ground in 2016. Mumbai City, two-time ISL champions, have played here since.
Atmosphere: The stands sit right next to the pitch, so even a modest crowd feels loud. Seats sell out for big games, so book early.
How to reach:
- Rail: Andheri station (Western line) is the nearest major station.
- Air: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is only a few kilometres away.
Notable ISL moments: Mumbai City have won two ISL League Winners’ Shields and two ISL Cups, with many title-race nights played at this ground.
Matchday tips: Capacity is small, so do not wait until matchday for tickets. Leave extra travel time, as Andheri traffic is heavy in the evening.
11. Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Ranchi (expected, not confirmed)
Expected home of: Inter Kashi · Capacity: about 40,000 (as listed)
Inter Kashi are based in Varanasi, where their own stadium is still being built. Their 2026-27 home venue had not been officially confirmed when this guide was updated, but reports say Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Morabadi is the most likely host. In earlier seasons, the club played home games in Lucknow, Kolkata and Guwahati.
How to reach:
- Air: Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi.
- Rail: Ranchi Junction station.
Why it matters: With Jamshedpur FC out of the ISL this season, a Ranchi home for Inter Kashi would keep top-flight football alive in Jharkhand. Fans in Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Dhanbad could reach matches within a few hours by road or rail.
Shared grounds and secondary venues
Three ISL stadiums are shared by two clubs in 2026-27, and one club splits its home games across two cities.
| Stadium | Clubs | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata | East Bengal, Mohun Bagan SG | The Kolkata Derby is played here, with one side named the home team for each meeting |
| Fatorda Stadium, Goa | FC Goa, Churchill Brothers | Hosts the new ISL Goa Derby |
| JLN Stadium, New Delhi | Punjab FC, SC Delhi | Punjab FC play in Delhi while their base stays in Mohali |
| Sarusajai (Guwahati) + Khuman Lampak (Imphal) | NorthEast United | Most home games in Guwahati, selected games in Imphal |
Still to be confirmed: Inter Kashi’s home ground. The official fixture list shows their home games as TBC; Ranchi is the most likely host. We will update this page as soon as the club or league confirms it.
ISL stadiums by region
The ISL covers every corner of India, from Imphal in the east to Goa in the west. Here is how the 2026-27 venues split by region.
| Region | Stadiums | Clubs |
|---|---|---|
| East | Salt Lake Stadium (Kolkata), Kalinga Stadium (Bhubaneswar), Birsa Munda Football Stadium (Ranchi, expected) | East Bengal, Mohun Bagan SG, Odisha FC, Inter Kashi |
| Northeast | Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Guwahati), Khuman Lampak (Imphal) | NorthEast United |
| South | JLN Stadium (Kochi), Sree Kanteerava (Bengaluru), JLN Stadium (Chennai) | Kerala Blasters, Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC |
| West | Fatorda Stadium (Goa), Mumbai Football Arena (Mumbai) | FC Goa, Churchill Brothers, Mumbai City |
| North | JLN Stadium (New Delhi) | Punjab FC, SC Delhi |
The South has the strongest cluster of big-crowd venues, while the East has the largest single stadium. North India has only one ISL venue this season, shared by two clubs.
Matchday guide for first-time visitors
Going to your first ISL match? These tips apply at almost every venue.
- Check the kick-off time. Most ISL 2026-27 matches start at 5:00 PM or 7:30 PM IST.
- Buy tickets online, early. Clubs sell through their official ticketing partners. Big games, derbies and weekend fixtures sell out fast.
- Carry ID and your ticket. Keep the e-ticket downloaded on your phone, since mobile networks often struggle near packed stadiums.
- Arrive at least an hour early. Security checks take time, and the pre-match atmosphere is part of the experience.
- Travel light. Most stadiums restrict large bags, bottles, food, flares and sharp objects. Check the club’s matchday rules before you leave home.
- Pick your seat type. Choose the fan-group end for noise and chants, or the sides and upper tiers for a calmer view with families.
- Plan your ride home. Metro and train services near most stadiums are faster than waiting for a cab after the match.
Planning an ISL away day
For fans who travel, some cities offer more football per trip than others.
- Goa: Fatorda hosts both FC Goa and Churchill Brothers, so there is a home match most weekends. Pair a beach trip with a match.
- Kolkata: With two clubs at Salt Lake Stadium, plus the Kolkata Derby, it is the best city for a football weekend.
- Delhi: Punjab FC and SC Delhi both play at JLN Stadium, which is a single metro ride from central Delhi.
- Northeast: Combine a Guwahati match with a trip to Shillong or Kaziranga, or catch NorthEast United’s game in Imphal.
- South: Kochi, Bengaluru and Chennai are all close by rail and air, so you can watch two ISL matches in a long weekend.
ISL stadium fun facts
- Biggest: Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, at about 68,000 seats.

- New in 2026-27: Imphal’s Khuman Lampak Stadium hosts its first ISL match, and Fatorda hosts the first ISL Goa Derby.
- World Cup venues: Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, Guwahati and Delhi all hosted matches at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
- Football-only ground: Mumbai Football Arena is the only ISL venue converted specifically for football; most others are multi-sport athletics stadiums.
Venue changes for 2026-27
Three clubs from 2025-26 are not in the ISL this season, so their grounds no longer host ISL football.
| Club | Home city or ground | Why it is out |
|---|---|---|
| Jamshedpur FC | JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur | Withdrew in July 2026; its licence passed to Churchill Brothers |
| Mohammedan SC | Kolkata | Relegated after finishing bottom of 2025-26 |
| Diamond Harbour FC | Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata | Promoted as 2025-26 IFL champions but did not pay the participation fee |
ISL venues have changed often since 2014. Clubs have moved cities (Odisha FC from Delhi to Bhubaneswar), switched stadiums (Mumbai City from DY Patil to Andheri), and used temporary homes while new grounds were built. We record these changes here every season.
