VB Thiruvallur Veerans and Karaikudi Kaalai will clash with each other in the second match of the inaugural season of TNPL today (25 August). Both teams look to have a bunch of young blood, Baba Aparajith will lead Thiruvallur Veerans while experienced S Badrinath to lead Karaikudi Kaalai.
Thiruvalur is coached by former Tamil Nadu Captain VB Chandrasekhar so they will get the advantage of having a coach from the same region while Karaikudi Kailai gets the advantage of much experienced Twenty20 coach Robin Singh who served Chennai Super Kings in IPL for years.
Robin and Badrinath were all praise for the ground and the facilities but the latter expressed his concerns about the weather and hoped it would stay bright and sunny.
“We have a good bunch of youth and experience, with players like S. Anirudha along with C. Ganapathi and R. Srinivasan in the mix,” he said, regarding the Karaikudi Kaalai team composition.
Badrinath stressed the importance of staying calm under pressure, which he had learnt from his days with the Chennai Super Kings under M.S. Dhoni’s leadership.
Robin spoke on the need to stick to the basics.
“Whether it is Mumbai Indians or Karaikudi Kaalai, the basics remain the same. Players need to take the next step during this TNPL.” he said.
“During the training session in the past week, players did not complain about the workload, which came as a surprise to me. It is about handling pressure and playing with a freedom which will be the key in this format.”
The inaugural ceremony on Thursday will see singers Haricharan and Chinna Ponnu along with 30 dancers entertain the audience.
The match will start at 6.30 p.m August 25.
