Chennai Super Kings Franchise history
In January 2008, the BCCI unveiled the owners of eight city-based franchises. The Chennai franchise was sold to the India Cements for $91 million, making it the fourth most expensive team in the league behind Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.
India Cements acquired the rights to the franchise for 10 years. Former ICC Chairman N. Srinivasan was the de-facto owner of the Chennai Super Kings, by means of his position as the vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements Ltd. The franchise was transferred to a separate entity named Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. after the Supreme Court of India struck down the controversial amendment to the BCCI constitution’s clause 6.2.4 that allowed board officials to have a commercial interest in the IPL and the Champions League T20.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Revenue
In 2019, CSK’s brand value was estimated to be 678 crores. Being one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian Premier League has certainly attributed to CSK’s net worth as a company and a franchise.
Chennai Super Kings reported total revenue of Rs 350 crore in FY20 which is 15 percent down from the previous year’s revenue i.e Rs 410 crore in FY19.
This decline was largely on account of the reduction of income from the grant of central rights from the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).
The Income from Grant of Central Rights was down from Rs 294 crore to Rs 240 crore. This Rs 54 crore drop reflected in the company’s other parameters as well. The franchise’s operating profit declined 57 percent to Rs 68 crore and the net profit dropped from Rs 111 crore to Rs 50 crore.
This is the Chennai Super Kings net income for the current financial year. For more details keep visiting isportsleague.com
