Defending champions Australia is going to host the next ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Today i.e. on Tuesday ICC announced the T20 World Cup 2022 venue and dates for the world cup.

ICC locked the seven cities of Australia to host the T20 World Cup 2022. Seven cities are Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. The first semi-final is scheduled to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on November 9 and Adelaide Oval will host the second on November 10. The final is slated to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground under lights on November 13.

A total of 45 matches will be played between 16th October to 13th November 2022. A total of 16 teams are participating in two groups. The twelve teams that reached the Super 12 phase of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup automatically qualified for the 2022 tournament. They will be joined by the top two teams from each of the two Global Qualifiers. The Global Qualifiers will have a total of sixteen teams; the bottom four teams from the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the next four highest-ranked T20I sides (Zimbabwe, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore), and the eight teams that progress from the Regional Final.

The final will be held in Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) while the two semi-finals will be played in Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and Adelaide Oval.

“With the unprecedented disruptions over the past two years, bringing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to Australia for the first time offers a perfect opportunity for fans across the whole country to experience the joy of a live global sporting event again,” said Michelle Enright, the tournament’s CEO.

“The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020 produced some incredible moments and created memories that will live with Australian cricket fans forever. Now it’s time for the men’s event to take center stage and claim its own place in history.”
