The Asia Cup is coming back to Bangladesh, and this time it returns in the 50 over form. The 2027 edition is the 18th time Asia’s top cricket nations will fight for the continental title, and it lands just months before the ODI World Cup, which makes it a lot more than a warm up event.

Latest Asia Cup 2027 Update
The biggest recent news is that the sixth and final team is now known. Nepal qualified on 12 September 2026 by beating the United Arab Emirates by 44 runs in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup final in Kuala Lumpur. Opener Aasif Sheikh scored a century in that game. This is only Nepal’s second appearance at the Asia Cup, after 2023.
So the full team list is locked. Bangladesh’s hosting rights were confirmed in July 2026, which settled months of doubt around whether the tournament might move somewhere neutral.
Still waiting on official word: the match schedule, the groups, the venue list and every squad. The ACC has not released any of these yet. We will add them here the moment they are announced.
Asia Cup 2027 Format
The 2027 tournament uses the same shape as the 2018 and 2023 ODI editions. It is simple once you break it down.
Six teams are split into two groups of three. Inside each group, every team plays the other two once. That means each side gets two group games to start.
The top two teams from each group move into the Super Four. In that stage the four survivors play each other once, so three games each. The top two of the Super Four then meet in the final.
That adds up to 13 matches in total across the whole event.
What does a team need to do to reach the final? In short, finish in the top two of its group, then finish in the top two of the Super Four. A team that goes all the way plays a maximum of seven matches. A team knocked out in the group stage plays only two.
When teams finish level on points, Net Run Rate usually decides who goes through. Net Run Rate rewards teams that win big and chase fast, and punishes teams that lose heavily. The ACC has not yet published the full playing conditions for 2027, so exact tiebreak rules and any reserve day details are subject to official confirmation.

India. The most successful side in Asia Cup history and the reigning champions. Their batting depth and bowling variety make them the team to beat, though a lot will depend on final selection and player availability so close to a World Cup. Pakistan. Their fast bowling is world class and thrives in helpful conditions. The bigger question is whether the top order can post and defend big totals across a full tournament. Squad and selection stories belong on the Pakistan page.
Sri Lanka. Six time champions who always seem to raise their game in this event. Quality spin and a settled middle order give them a real path deep into the tournament. Their outlook improves if the seniors stay fit.
Bangladesh. As hosts, they get home crowds and familiar pitches, which in Mirpur can turn any game on its head. They have reached three Asia Cup finals but never won it, so this is a chance to break new ground. Detailed squad news will live on the Bangladesh page.
Afghanistan. Their spin unit is built for slow, gripping surfaces, and their batting has grown up fast. On the right pitch they can beat anyone, which makes them a genuine threat rather than a name to fill the draw.
Nepal. Reaching the tournament is already a story. They will look to compete hard, learn against the big teams and build for the World Cup cycle. Simply being here is a reward for years of steady progress.

Groups
The official groups have not been drawn yet. As soon as the ACC confirms them, we will publish the group breakdown here, including the key fixtures and the main qualification battle in each group.
Based on how past editions were seeded, India and Pakistan are usually kept apart in the group stage so they can meet later, but nothing about the 2027 draw is confirmed. Treat any early group prediction as guesswork until the ACC makes it official.

Schedule Overview
The tournament runs across roughly two and a half weeks from 18 June to 4 July 2027, with the final on 4 July. These dates are widely reported and appear locked, but the ACC has not released the match by match fixture list, so exact days, start times and venues per game are still to come.

Pitch and Conditions
June and early July in Bangladesh means the monsoon is around, so weather and rain interruptions are a real factor. Humidity is high and evenings can bring dew, which often helps the team batting second because the ball skids on and gets harder to grip.
On history, Mirpur can be a slower, grippier surface where spinners come into play and chasing is not always easy. Sylhet and Chattogram have tended to offer a bit more for batters. That said, these are only broad tendencies from past cricket at these grounds.

India vs Pakistan remains the match the whole cricket world watches. When these two meet, everything else pauses.
