Indian Premier League 2022 Mega Auction: The fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League is set to happen from the month of March to May 2022. Before that IPL 2022, Mega Auctions for the fifteenth edition are set to happen. The date for the following are not announced yet, but if all good will happen then it will be done in the month of December 2021. Fans are very much excited about this session because the last season which was conducted behind closed doors was super successful in a pandemic time. IPL 2022 Mega Auction Dates
As of now, no date or any detail about this is announced by the BCCI or IPL committee. But it usually happens in the month of December or January so we are expecting the same will happen in the month of December 2021 or January 2022. The IPL usually starts in the window of March to May or the may get extend to the first week of June.
New Teams or Franchises in the IPL 2022
BCCI last season i.e. in the fourteenth season only declared that in the upcoming season we will have two new teams. Yet they have not clarified that new teams will be entirely new or old franchises. As per most of the news outlets, Ahmedabad city will get one franchise while Lucknow and Kanpur could possibly be the second new franchise.

Retention and RTM card:
The term RTM stands for Right to Match. As per the IPL 2022 mega auction rules, a team can use the RTM card to retain a player at the mega auctions by paying the exact amount to equal the winning bid. This is a method used by the franchises to retain their key players.
It was not yet announced that how many RTM cards will be available with each team and what is the procedure for the new teams.
Trading Window
Trading Window is an opportunity for the IPL franchises to trade players during the auction. This can be done only with the consent of the players involved. Cost differences if any, between the old and new contracts will be borne by the franchisees involved. In a case where the new contract is more lucrative than the older one, the profit would be shared by the player and his old franchise. Trading is prohibited outside the trading window or during the tournament.
Rules for Squad Strength in IPL Auctions
As per the rules for the squad strength, the maximum squad strength for each team is 25 players. The rule also specifies that each team should at least have 18 players. A team can have a minimum of 17 and a maximum of 25 Indian players in IPL. This could include both capped as well as uncapped players. IPL 2022 Auction: First Choice Retention Price:
The BCCI and IPL may also increase the amount paid to the first choice retention of the franchise. As of now, the first-choice retained players are fetching whopping INR 15 Crores. MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are the first choice retention of their respective franchises and are drawing INR 15 Crores each IPL season since 2018 while Virat Kohli draws INR 17 Crores.
Eligibility Criteria For Players to Register for IPL Auction
The BCCI has set the following IPL 2022 auction rules of eligibility for under-19 Indian players:
- The aspirant should be born after 1 April 2003.
- The aspirant should have played at least one match in List-A cricket or first-class cricket.
- The aspirant should be a registered player with the state association.
- The BCCI has set the following IPL 2021 auction rules of eligibility for uncapped players who have given up domestic cricket:
- The aspirant can only register after it gets a written approval from the BCCI.
