The Indian Premier League 2027 is scheduled to begin in late March 2027. Before that, the IPL 2027 Mini-Auction is expected to take place in November 2026 — most likely in the third week of November. But before the auction, the IPL 2027 Trade Window is already open, and franchises have wasted no time in making blockbuster moves.
This is a mini-auction season, meaning most teams will retain the majority of their squads. However, as we have already seen, the trade window has produced some stunning swaps. The IPL GC has informed all franchises that the IPL 2027 Trade Window will remain open until approximately the second week of December 2026 — roughly one week before the mini-auction.
The trade window opened in late June 2026, just weeks after the conclusion of IPL 2026 on May 31. And it has already delivered one of the biggest trades in IPL history.
Trading Window Rules
A player can be traded in IPL in two ways: the franchise offers to sell the player, or the franchise expresses interest in a player from another team.
- Negotiations between the two teams should only be related to the fee payable to the player.
- No trade will be given a go-ahead unless it is approved by the IPL Governing Council.
- If more than one franchise is interested in securing a player via trade/transfer, the selling franchise has the power to make the final decision.
- The player’s consent must be obtained before trading or transferring him to another team.
- Franchises cannot trade ‘icon’ players.
- A trade can be a player-swap (players exchanged between franchises) or an all-cash deal (one franchise pays the full player fee).
Deadline
The IPL 2027 pre-auction trade window is expected to close in the second week of December 2026, approximately one week before the mini-auction. After the auction concludes, a second post-auction trade window will reopen and run until approximately one month before IPL 2027 begins in late March 2027.

Rishabh Pant Returns to Delhi Capitals; Kuldeep Yadav Joins Lucknow Super Giants
In what is the first and biggest trade of the IPL 2027 window, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have completed a blockbuster player swap involving two of India’s biggest names.
Rishabh Pant, who Lucknow Super Giants bought for a record ₹27 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, will return to his original home, Delhi Capitals, for a revised fee of ₹15 crore — a significant pay cut. Pant had spent nine seasons with DC (2016–2024) before his historic move to LSG. However, his two-year stint at LSG was a struggle. As skipper, he won only 10 matches and lost 18, with LSG finishing bottom of the points table in IPL 2026.
In return, LSG will receive Kuldeep Yadav at his current fee of ₹13.50 crore. The left-arm wrist-spinner, who plays his domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh, will now represent the IPL franchise from his home state. Kuldeep had been an important performer for DC, picking up 72 wickets in 65 matches at an economy of 8.24 since joining them in 2022, though IPL 2026 was a difficult season for him personally.
As a result of the swap, LSG gains ₹13.50 crore in additional auction purse (₹27 crore outgoing Pant minus ₹13.50 crore incoming Kuldeep), while DC will have ₹1.50 crore deducted from their purse. Pant becomes the second big Indian star after Ravindra Jadeja to take a pay cut as part of an IPL trade in recent times.
