The IPL 2027 schedule has not been released yet. The BCCI has not announced a single fixture for the 20th season, so any website showing a full match list right now is guessing. What we do have is a reported window. In June, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI that the board wants IPL 2027 to run from 10 March to 15 May 2027, about two weeks earlier than the last few seasons.
That window is reported, not confirmed, and it replaces an older plan. In November 2024 the BCCI gave franchises the dates for three seasons in advance, and the 2027 slot was 14 March to 30 May. Cricbuzz now lists the earlier 10 March to 15 May window, which is why we treat it as the most likely one.
The full IPL 2027 time table should arrive after the player auction, which the BCCI has told franchises will take place in Goa on 16 December 2026. The day the fixtures are published, this page will carry all 74 matches with IST start times, double-header days flagged, filters by team and city, and a PDF download. Until then, here is what is actually known and what it means if you are planning to watch a game at the ground.

When Will the IPL 2027 Schedule Be Released
Nobody outside the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council knows the exact date. The pattern from recent seasons gives a fair idea, though.
The fixtures always come after the auction. Last year the auction was held in Abu Dhabi on 16 December 2025, and the schedule then came out in two parts. The first phase covered 20 matches from 28 March to 12 April. The second phase, with the other 50 league games from 13 April to 24 May, was announced later because assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam had to be worked around. The playoff venues were not named until 6 May 2026, when the season was already more than half done.
If IPL 2027 really starts on 10 March, the board has roughly 12 weeks between the Goa auction and the first ball. That is tighter than usual. Our expectation is that the fixtures will be out in January or early February 2027, but this is the site’s estimate, not anything the BCCI has said.
Elections could slow it down again. Assembly elections are due in early 2027 in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, the home states of Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings. The Election Commission has not announced polling dates yet. If voting overlaps with March or April, expect another phased release like 2026.
The road to the IPL 2027 fixtures
| Milestone | Date | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Pant and Kuldeep trade between DC and LSG | June 2026 | Confirmed |
| Retention and release deadline | Not announced, last year it was 15 November | Expected mid-November |
| Auction briefing for franchises | 15 December 2026 | Reported |
| Player auction in Goa | 16 December 2026 | Reported |
| Fixture release | Not announced | Expected January or February 2027 |
| Opening match | 10 March 2027 | Reported |
| Final | 15 May 2027 | Reported |
One small wrinkle on the auction. The reported date of 16 December clashes with India’s ODI against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru, and the BCCI has denied any plan to move that match. No formal auction announcement has been made yet, so treat the Goa date as strong but unofficial.
IPL 2027 Start Date and Final Date Explained
The reason for the earlier start is the weather. Saikia’s argument was simple. After about 15 May, some host cities face early pre-monsoon rain, and the ones that stay dry get very hot, which is hard on players and on fans sitting in open stands. Finishing by mid-May avoids the worst of both.
There is a cost. The fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled for 27 February to 3 March 2027 in Ahmedabad, according to Wisden. If the IPL starts on 10 March, India and Australia’s Test players will have about a week before reporting to their franchises. Expect at least a few big names to miss the opening round of games, or to walk straight from a five-day Test into T20 cricket.
The table below puts the reported 2027 window next to the last four seasons. We have counted the days ourselves, including both the first and last day, so you can see how much cricket is being squeezed into each window.
IPL season windows compared, 2023 to 2027
| Season | First match | Final | Length in days | Matches per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 31 March 2023 | 29 May 2023 | 60 | 1.23 |
| 2024 | 22 March 2024 | 26 May 2024 | 66 | 1.12 |
| 2025 | 22 March 2025 | 3 June 2025 | 74 | 1.00 (season paused for about a week in May) |
| 2026 | 28 March 2026 | 31 May 2026 | 65 | 1.14 |
| 2027 reported | 10 March 2027 | 15 May 2027 | 67 | 1.10 (if 74 matches) |
| 2027 older plan | 14 March 2027 | 30 May 2027 | 78 | 0.95 (if 74 matches) |
The reported window is not shorter than 2026. It is simply moved forward by 18 days. A 67-day season with 74 matches looks very similar to what fans got last year, so don’t expect a cramped calendar. You should expect most of the season to be played in March and April, with only the last two weeks of league games and the playoffs in May.
How Many Matches and Double-Headers in IPL 2027
IPL 2027 is expected to have 74 matches, the same as the last four seasons. That is 70 league games and four playoffs. There was talk of expanding to 84 matches, and the 2024 window was set with that in mind, but Saikia has indicated that any increase is more likely from 2028. So 74 it is, until the BCCI says otherwise.
Each team plays 14 league games. Since 2022 the 10 teams have been split into two groups of five. A team plays the four sides in its own group twice, home and away. It plays four teams from the other group once, and one team from the other group twice. That one extra rivalry is why some fans get two RCB vs CSK games in a season and others don’t. When the fixtures land, check which side your team plays twice from the other group, because that tells you a lot about how hard the draw is.
Match timings in IST
In 2026, evening matches started at 7.30 PM IST and afternoon matches on double-header days started at 3.30 PM IST. There is no announcement for 2027 yet, but these slots have been stable for several seasons and we expect them to stay. The toss is usually 30 minutes before the first ball, at 7 PM IST and 3 PM IST.
Our double-header calculation
Double-header days matter if you are buying tickets for an afternoon game in March or April, when the heat can already be serious in some cities. The BCCI has not said how many there will be in 2027, so we worked out the minimum from the reported window.
In 2026 the league stage ended on 24 May and the final was on 31 May, a gap of seven days for the playoffs. We applied that same gap to both possible 2027 windows.
| Scenario | League stage days | League matches | Fewest double-headers needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 actual | 58 (28 March to 24 May) | 70 | 12 were played |
| 2027 reported window | 60 (10 March to about 8 May) | 70 | At least 10 |
| 2027 older window | 71 (14 March to about 23 May) | 70 | None strictly needed |
The 2026 numbers check out neatly. There were 58 days in the league stage and 12 double-headers, which made 70 matches with a game on every single day. For 2027, the reported window needs at least 10 double-headers even with cricket on every day. In practice the BCCI tends to add rest days and stack games on weekends, so 12 to 14 double-headers is a reasonable guess. Every one of them will be flagged in the full schedule on this page once it is out.
IPL 2027 Venues and Home Grounds
No venue list for 2027 has been announced. The best guide is where each team played in 2026, because franchises rarely change their main home ground. Three teams split their home games across two cities last season, and that is the part most likely to change again.
| Team | Home grounds used in 2026 | What to watch for in 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Chennai Super Kings | MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai | No change expected |
| Mumbai Indians | Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai | No change expected |
| Royal Challengers Bengaluru | M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru and Raipur | Whether all home games return to Bengaluru |
| Kolkata Knight Riders | Eden Gardens, Kolkata | No change expected |
| Rajasthan Royals | Guwahati and Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur | Split between the two likely again |
| Sunrisers Hyderabad | Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad | No change expected |
| Delhi Capitals | Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi | No change expected |
| Punjab Kings | New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) and Dharamshala | Punjab election dates could affect timing |
| Gujarat Titans | Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad | No change expected |
| Lucknow Super Giants | Ekana Stadium, Lucknow | UP election dates could affect timing |
A few numbers from 2026 explain that table. RCB played five home games in Bengaluru and two in Raipur. Rajasthan played three in Guwahati and four in Jaipur. Punjab played four in New Chandigarh and three in Dharamshala. Those splits were confirmed when the second phase of the 2026 schedule was released.
The final venue is the biggest open question. By tradition, the defending champions’ home ground hosts the final. Bengaluru was originally set to host the 2026 final, but the BCCI moved it to Ahmedabad, citing operational and logistical reasons. With RCB defending the title again, whether the 2027 final goes to the Chinnaswamy is something we will only know when the fixtures appear.
What Could Still Change the IPL 2027 Time Table
The weather plan itself
The 10 March start is the board’s preference, not a signed-off decision. If the international calendar or broadcast needs push back, the older 14 March to 30 May window is still sitting there as a fallback. Either way, the season is very likely to start in March.
State elections
The 2026 schedule had to be split in two because of polls in three states. In 2027, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are due to vote in the first half of the year. Lucknow and New Chandigarh both need police and administrative support that is stretched during elections, so those home games are the most likely to be moved or rescheduled.
International cricket
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy ending on 3 March leaves a tight turnaround. Overseas boards also release players for set periods, and Australia’s Test players in particular may arrive later than the first week.
Bengaluru
After the 2026 final was moved out of Bengaluru and two RCB home games were played in Raipur, the Chinnaswamy’s 2027 status is not settled. Nothing has been announced either way.
What Each Team Will Look for When the Fixtures Drop
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
RCB are back-to-back champions after beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the 2026 final in Ahmedabad, with Virat Kohli finishing the chase with a six. Defending champions have opened the season at home in recent years, so an RCB home game on day one is the likeliest start. Check the latest RCB squad and player list before the auction reshapes it.
Gujarat Titans
Runners-up in 2026 under Shubman Gill, and the hosts of last year’s final. Kagiso Rabada took the Purple Cap with 29 wickets. GT fans will want to see how many of their games fall in the early March heat in Ahmedabad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals
Both made the 2026 playoffs and met in the Eliminator. Rajasthan’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the story of the season, finishing with the Orange Cap on 776 runs. RR fans need to know which games go to Guwahati and which to Jaipur, so check the city split when it comes out.
Chennai Super Kings
CSK missed the playoffs in 2026, and a rebuild through the mini-auction is likely. Chepauk games are the hardest tickets in the league, so knowing the home dates early matters. Our Chennai Super Kings squad page will track every change.
Mumbai Indians
Five-time champions, but out of the playoff race in 2026 well before the end of the league stage. Wankhede home dates are usually spread across the season. The Mumbai Indians team squad and player list will be updated after the auction.
Delhi Capitals
The headline move of the off-season. Rishabh Pant is back at Delhi on a revised fee of Rs 15 crore after two seasons at Lucknow, with Kuldeep Yadav going the other way. The first Delhi home game with Pant back will be one of the most-watched fixtures of the league stage.
Lucknow Super Giants
LSG finished bottom in 2026 with four wins from 14 games, and Pant stepped down as captain. Kuldeep joins at his existing fee of Rs 13.5 crore and returns to his home state. Ekana dates may depend on the UP election calendar.
Punjab Kings
Punjab led the table in late April 2026 and then faded out of the top four. They also won the Fair Play award. Fans in the north will be checking how the games are split between New Chandigarh and Dharamshala again.
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR missed the playoffs in 2026 too. Eden Gardens dates are not expected to be affected by elections this time, since West Bengal voted in 2026.
IPL 2026 Schedule in Review
The 2026 season ran from 28 March to 31 May. RCB opened their title defence against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy on 28 March. The first double-header came on 4 April, with Delhi Capitals hosting Mumbai Indians at 3.30 PM IST and Gujarat Titans hosting Rajasthan Royals at 7.30 PM IST.
The playoffs were played across three venues for the first time. Qualifier 1 was held in Dharamshala on 26 May, the Eliminator in New Chandigarh on 27 May, Qualifier 2 in New Chandigarh on 29 May, and the final in Ahmedabad on 31 May. RCB, Gujarat, Sunrisers and Rajasthan were the four playoff teams.
On TV, Star Sports carried every match in India, and JioHotstar streamed them. The media rights deal runs through 2027, so the same arrangement is expected next season.

iSportsLeague Take
This is the site’s view, not an official position.
We think the 10 March to 15 May window will hold. The BCCI has spoken about it publicly, Cricbuzz has listed it, and the heat and rain problems in late May were obvious to everyone watching in 2026. The older 30 May final would put the playoffs back in exactly the conditions the board says it wants to avoid.
We expect the fixtures to be released in two phases again, mainly because of the UP and Punjab elections. Our guess is that the first phase comes out in late January or early February, covering the first three weeks, and that Lucknow and Punjab home games are kept towards the later phase until polling dates are clear.
On the opener, we expect RCB to start at home in Bengaluru as defending champions. The bigger call is the final. After last year’s move to Ahmedabad, we think the BCCI is more likely to give the 2027 final to Ahmedabad again than to Bengaluru, because the Narendra Modi Stadium has hosted it comfortably and the board will want certainty for a mid-May finish.
Plan your match-day trips for March and April. That is where most of the 2027 season will be played.
